Sweet Bonanza: the short version

Sweet Bonanza is Pragmatic Play’s candy-themed slot and one of the most-played online slots anywhere. There are no paylines: 8 to 12 or more matching symbols anywhere on the 6×5 grid pay, the winning symbols vanish, new ones tumble into the gap, and the sequence keeps paying as long as new combinations form. It is also no longer one game. Pragmatic has built the name into a series of seven, and they are not the same bet — the table further down sets out every one with the studio’s own RTP figure, because the sequels differ by more than the artwork.

How Sweet Bonanza pays

The grid is 6 reels by 5 rows, and it uses scatter pays rather than paylines. Position does not matter: land enough of the same symbol anywhere on the screen and it pays. That is why the game feels busy compared with a 20-line slot — there is no left-to-right rule to satisfy.

• 8 to 12 or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid award a prize, up to 50x your stake on Pragmatic’s own figures. Red hearts are the top candy; the fruit symbols — bananas, grapes, watermelons, plums, apples — pay least.
• The tumble. Winning symbols are removed and the symbols above drop down to fill the gaps. If the new arrangement forms another win, it pays again, and the tumble repeats until it does not. One spin can pay several times.
• 4 to 6 lollipop scatters award up to 100x on their own and trigger the bonus game.

The free spins, and where the big multipliers come from

The bonus game is 10 free spins, and it is where the game changes character. Multiplier bombs drop onto the grid carrying values between 2x and 100x. The detail that matters, and that most write-ups skip: the bombs stay on screen through the tumble sequence, and at the end of it every multiplier value on the grid is added together and applied to the whole win. Two 50x bombs and a 25x are not three separate multipliers — they are 125x on the total.

Three or more scatters landing during the bonus award five more free spins, so a good round can run well past ten. A long tumble chain with several bombs still on the board is the only route to a result worth talking about; everything else is small and frequent.

Two optional bet modes change the odds of reaching the bonus:

• Ante bet raises your stake by 25% and improves the chance of landing scatters.
